![]() ![]() The 5th gen was sorta a filler since they hadn’t released a base model iPad in 5 years, the 6th gen got Apple Pencil support, a new chip, and was overall faster. In the current few years I think the 6th and 9th are the best upgrades. Would I also recommend they get an Air or mini instead, also yes. Would I recommend it to people who only use a tablet for watching YouTube videos or other simple things? Oh for sure. The current iPad is fundamentally a bad product. Who would buy that? Old people and people who just can afford the better product. Imagine if the entry level iPhone was still the iPhone 3GS with a better screen and more storage. It serves no purpose but to drive consumers away from the base model to the over priced higher models or over charge for a underwhelming base product.Īlso, It just looks like the iPad 2 with a better screen and more storage. Therefor, not only is the current model the worst from a comparative point, it’s the worst from a purely ethical point. ![]() If the base iPad didn’t exist then they would have to lower the price of the mini and the air to bring both down into the entry level market and leave the Pro models at the high end. ![]() There is no reason the Air and Mini cost as much as they do, the margins are extremely high on both. The existence of the base iPad only serves to justify a higher price for the Air. ![]() But simply the product compared to the rest of the iPad line. The current entry level iPad is the worst product. Both iPads ran really well on iOS 5 and iOS 6, but were terrible on iOS 9. The second problem - later versions of iOS slowed it down dramatically. That was a kick in the nuts to everyone who bought an iPad 3. The first problem - Apple released the iPad 4 just six months after the iPad 3. The iPad 3 gets a bad reputation for two reasons, and they were bad decisions Apple made rather than problems with the device itself. I remember playing several games on it when it was new and it never stuttered. Performance was decent in its early days. If you took a photo of a piece of paper, you could read the text clearly on the iPad 3 camera. The rear camera was also a massive improvement over the iPad 2. Seriously - go back and look at how bad the iPad 2 screen was. Sure it was heavier then the iPad 2, but the retina display was a massive improvement over the iPad 2 screen.
